Converting Petz from P5 into P3 & P4

In this tutorial, I will guide you through converting a pet from Petz 5 into lower versions of the Petz games. A lot of people with lower versions of Petz, i.e. Petz 3 or 4, wish to adopt or trade Petz from users with Petz 5, but can’t. They then lose out in the Petz Community, making it difficult to trade with others or give out adoptions. Hopefully this tutorial will put an end to this kind of problem.

When Ubi Soft took Petz over from PF Magic, they created Petz 5, which includes a new profile system and thus new coding for each pet. Lower game versions such as Petz 3 and 4 don’t recognize this coding, and therefore don’t load Petz from P5. This can be incredibly frustrating, but can be fixed very easily with this simple tutorial.

Just as a side note, you should only really use this process for hexed Petz. Bred Petz, when converted, become a first generation clone, and lose their lineage. If you still wish to convert a bred pet, bear in mind that any offspring produced will not share this parent's looks.

1.)    First of all, you need to download LNZ Pro from Sherlock Software. This hexing program is a Hex Decimal editor and will allow you to view and change a Petz’ coding. Click on this link to go to the site and download LNZ Pro:

2.)   Now that you’ve downloaded LNZ, familiarize yourself with the program. Open up a Pet in it, click on the LNZ Adult button, and have a quick look at the coding sections. You don’t need to change anything or write anything down; just make sure you know where the beginning and end of the coding is, and where things are. Just a reminder if this is your first time in a hex editor – you are NOT allowed to steal coding from Petz hexed by other people for your own work.

^ Ensure you know where your petz' coding starts and ends.

3.)  So you know where the Adult LNZ section is on a pet and where it starts and ends, yes? Good. Now, you need to find the pet you wish to convert. To do this go to My Computer.
If it is in your Adopted Petz Folder (and thus won’t load in the game,) remove it and put it somewhere else. You won’t need this pet for much longer. Open this pet in LNZ.

4.) Now you need to find out what breed your pet is you need to convert. In the petz’ adult LNZ, scroll down to the [Sounds] section. There are usually initials as to which breed the pet is. As you can see in this example, the pet has ‘gd.’ This is where a small amount of logic comes in. ‘Gd’ is obviously the initials for a Great Dane – but they could be anything, so use your common sense here!

5.)    Once you know which breed your P5 pet was, go into Petz. Go to the Adoption center and adopt a pet of the same breed. If your P5 pet was a Great Dane, adopt a Great Dane. If it was a Labrador, adopt a Labrador, and so on. It doesn’t matter about gender – if you’ve petza you can change this easily. Remember this petz’ name. This pet is going to become your converted clone!
(If the P5 pet was one of the newer breeds, or is an external breed, i.e. a German Shepherd or Pug, adopt the nearest breed to it. It won’t matter in the long run, but it’s always better to be safer rather than sorry!)

6.) Close petz. Whenever you work in LNZ Pro, always close petz first. I’ve had petz corrupt before from leaving my game open whilst typing away in LNZ, so always be careful with this

7.)   Open up the new pet you’ve just adopted in the game, as well as the P5 pet you already had open. You should now have 2 windows open. Make sure both windows are onto the Adult LNZ section

8.)   Click on and highlight ALL of the coding for your P5 Pet. Once you have highlighted all of this coding, right click on it and press ‘copy.’

9.)   Now, highlight ALL of the coding of your new pet we adopted in the game earlier on. Once you have ALL of your petz’ coding highlighted, right click and select ‘paste.’

10.) The P5 petz’ coding should now be the same as the P3 or P4 pet we adopted in the game earlier. Select ‘save.’

11.) Now, open petz again. Your pet should now come out looking exactly like the P5 one petz wouldn’t load. If you have Petza, make your petz’ age 100. In the petz menu also, click ‘Restore original colours.’ This will make sure all paintballs and eyelids look as they should.

Now you’ve successfully cloned your pet! It’s easy once you know how. If you get a ‘Corrupted pet’ message when you open your game, you made a mistake. You might not have scrolled down and highlighted all of the petz’ coding when copying it over, leaving out a vital section.
Always make sure you backup all petz before using a hex editor of any kind, because it’s often very hard to spot coding damage unless you are incredibly experienced with coding or hexing.
